Mid-July News Letter  ---

We finally found her!!  Help Us Bring Epona Home!

As many of you know we have been searching for a mini companion for Destinee Rose for many months, since we moved to the ranch in fact, none till now has worked out for various reasons.

Destinee needed a little friend, a buddy, a pal, who would be kind and loving to her, not push her around like Cheyanne can do, as she is my "challenged" one, with some left over neurological damage from when she had EPM.

Echo and Cheyanne are pretty much buddied up, so...... we found her, Destinee only has to wait two more weeks for her forever friend to come home.  We have named her Lady Epona --- she came to California in a herd of 20 from Iowa, is just out of quarantine, and we will be picking her up towards the end of the month, first we must finish the shelters which are going up starting tomorrow, we will have to make repairs to the no climb fencing, then add no climb fencing to the  12' gate from barn to turn out  which will make the area safe, Then before winter we will need a 12' gate panel to make Lady Epona her stall in the barn so that she is dry and safe with the others!

As Lisa Ross Williams reminded me the other day, after one more disappointment, if it is too hard then something else is on the way and meant to be!  And wouldn't you know it, within a day of that conversation someone I had contacted previously I was inspired to contact again, they are about 45 minutes from the ranch in fact, a breeder with years of experience and knowledge who had just rescued a herd from Iowa, so we waited a week for photos and there she was!

I fell in love with this little girl who they had named Lady Bug  -- she is a similar color to Destinee and similar markings to Echo's sister Mariah.   Both Destinee and Epona have flaxen mane and tail with white in them!

As far as I know Epona hasn't had much in the way of training, halter broke for the most part, don't know if she had any babies, and we are looking forward to helping her with some natural horsemanship schooling, play days with our play yard and some liberty fun as well.

We sent Lydia Hiby a photo of Epona to do a reading on her, and to also ask Destinee if this was ok with her too, and Auntie Lydia Hiby said yes and that she loves the color purple (good thing as I already had a purple string halter and lead rope) and that she is ready to come join the herd!  Epona also shared with Aunt Lydia that she would love to do Liberty work!!!   I am sure this was fated as is Lydia sure, and we are all looking forward to her coming to join our herd and become part of the family!

We really could use your help, so I am running a special to see if I can tempt some of you, as well as to hopefully generate a few more sales this month, which I am hoping will off set the cost of her adoption fees, et al and here is how I thought i would do it :

Purchase a 3# or 5# Equine Zyme or Equine Zyme Plus and recieve 1 extra pound free of the same ---  Purchase 10#'s of Equine Zyme or Equine Zyme Plus and recieve 2 pounds of the same free ---  just put a note in the message section "Epona" and I will make sure you get your extra!  1# of Equine Zyme sells for $18.95 and 1# of Equine Zyme Plus sells for $26.99 so that is what you would be saving depending on which one you purchase!

This will only be a five day offer --- so from the 15th to the 19th I am offering this up, they can be combined with the other specials we are also running!

Thank you in advance to everyone who "helps us" bring her home! We will be posting photos of her arrival in the mid August Newsletter for sure if not before!

The trailer is ready to go, the work on the ranch is contracted and will be happening so we can welcome her to her forever home!

Saving Money Around the Barn:

Feed ---  this in one of my pet things to share with people --- commercial bag feeds are full of chemicals and things your horses do not need, you pay a lot of money for "chemicals" and your horses do not thrive nor do their coats glissen --- save yourself some money, get a  sack of hay pellets, soak a cup or two, add a great Vitamin Mineral supplent like HIgh Point for Grass Hay, add some Equine Zyme maybe a little Nutra Flax and your horse will show you how much better he does!  Then in the winter throw in a hand full of either recleaned oats or barley!

Chemical Wormers ---  Instead of just using a chemical wormer because everyone else does, get a fecal done and see if your horse even has a parasite problem!  Chemical wormers are becoming ineffective, they upset the microbial balance in your horses gut and you can keep them pretty much parasite free by using Equine Zyme and our Herbal Wormer in place of harsh and ineffective chemicals!

Supplements ---   What I suggest to some of my customers who are in boarding facilities and share things with friends is buy the big bucket of a vitamin and mineral supplement and split it of something like HIgh Point or Nutra Flax, especially if you each have one horse, you both save by not having to pay extra for shipping and the more you buy the less the cost.  You can also buy things like Vitamin C and Kelp in larger sizes and then spilt it and save all the way around!

For all of us:

Attention Pop Corn Lovers:

A group of friends and neighbors were talking the other day about how when we were kids our Mom's would make popcorn in a big pot on the stove, then came micro wave popcorn with all the chemicals and additives, yuck!  Then I found this recipe on FB the other day and thought I would share it with all of you!  Yes it is done in the microwave but without all the "chemicals and fats" added to it!

Microwave popcorn, no bags, no butter, no oil!!!!

Itís genius really. Simple, simple genius.

Glass bowl + ceramic plate + popcorn kernels = perfectly popped popcorn in the microwave.

No bag. No butter or oil.

Nothing to throw away afterward.

And even no un-popped kernels.

This is life-changing.

Stay with me now.

Take 1/4 cup of dry popcorn kernels and place in the bottom of a microwave-safe glass bowl (pyrex is a great choice). Place a microwave-safe plate on top of the bowl. Plate should be wide enough to go beyond the rim of the bowl.

Microwave for 2 minutes 45 seconds. Watch in glory as your popcorn pops perfectly into little puffs of heaven.

During the very hot weather ants too seem to find their way in to our kitchens and instead of using chemicals here is an all natural solution.....

Get Rid of Ants Solution

This is a recipe for getting rid of those pesky ants that come every spring and summer. Mix up the solution, pack cotton balls in a jar cover, put the solution on and they will be gone.

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

3 tablespoons boric acid [purchase here: http://amzn.to/11nzGz6]

3 cups warm water

Directions:

1. Mix the sugar and boric acid well.

2. Add the warm water slowly, mixing all the while so it won't be too lumpy.

3. Store in a jar until ready to use.

4. When ready to use, put cotton into the top of a jar lid to fill it and then saturate the cotton to the top.

5. Place it in the location where it is needed.

6. Note: This solution will keep for a long while.

A good technique is to drip a drop or two over the edge of the lid to rest on the counter so the ants will find the solution sooner. It sometimes takes a little while for them to find it, but find it they will. When they do, do not disturb them as they drink. They will hang over the edge of the lid and drink for a while and then take it back to the nest killing the colony. Almost overnight they will be gone.

News from the Barn --

Photo: Another view

It has been so so hot here as in many place around the country, I find myself going down to the barn and hanging out in the afternoon as there is a lovely breeze that comes through and I brush manes and tails, pick feet, fly spray everyone for the afternoon flies and just hang out.  I have a big box fan in there too that hummmmmms away, and the dogs come sleep in the shade of the barn roof too!

This summer thus far has been very humid, and it could be foretelling a wet cold winter, on this coast any way!  I have lived in Southern California most of my life, and the years that we had this kind of humidity, especially up here in the high desert is the La Nina effect, which could set up on El Nino winter!  We could use the rain that is for sure, so will have to see what Mother Nature is thinking!

As we shared above, we have a new member to add to our herd the end of the month -- we are so looking forward to her presence, and Destinee will have someone to groom and to hang out with when Echo and Cheyanne are up and over the hill on the ranch and she can't see them.  Now she will have a friend, and I think this will continue to help her heal and will be a wonderful addition to our fur family!

We have been dealing with flies this summer, not in the way we did in Valley Center, but becuase we have a barn, but we are gaining on them, and with two double batches of Fly Predators, the Star Mark Stable fly traps, and also fly bags hanging out away from the barn the numbers have reduced noticeably!   I have also been adding Listerine and AC Vinegar to the Espree concentrate and they hate that, along with a few drops of rosemary and lavender essential oils!

Cheyanne has not had the belly itch and the raw mid line, her tail and mane are growing back and she has been so much more comfortable!  I found the NoSeeUm nosode in England and have sent it to many customer's this year for their horses, and so far they are seeing a difference but most started late, so a bigger difference will be seen next summer once they have been on the nosode!

Lessons begin again for Cheyanne in two weeks, with a lady we have known a long while, who is a friend of Margit's and helped me to trailer train Cheyanne when we moved back to Valley Center.  Her saddle should be arriving soon, but we have more ground work to do before that needs to happen!

Coming soon we will be offering UPS shipping along with USPS you can pick! It will be easier for me that is for sure, and they will pick up every day!

And coming soon will be a new shopping cart as well --- stay tuned for details ---- it is really happening this time!

We hope you are all enjoying your summer, your horses, fur family and all your family.

PS  --- I may not be running any specials the end of August, so the first two weeks will most likely be it, as many people go on vacation, kids go off to college and things slow a bit as we all enjoy the last of summer, so this would be the time to order your Equine Zyme and Equine Zyme Plus, and get a pound or two free and help us bring Epona home!

I just love this and had to put it in again this summer!
